SGN Endorsements Kshama Sawant (US House of Representatives, 9th District)
Our endorsement for the 9th Congressional District of Washington is Kshama Sawant! On Seattle City Council, Sawant was a driving force behind progressive policies and government accountability that made our city a better place. Sawant’s candidacy against Rep. Adam Smith as an independent socialist might be the change we need in Washington, DC. for the last two years of Trump’s presidency. Love her or hate her, none can dispute that Sawant has been an effective grassroots campaigner who has moved the needle

Tramps Like Us: A raw and unfiltered portrait of Queer life in America
Originally published in 2001 and quietly fading into the background, Tramps Like Us has been reissued — with an insightful introduction by Eileen Myles — and it demands to be read. This isn’t just a novel; it’s a fictionalized memoir, a raw, frank reflection of a bygone era in Queer history. Joe Westmoreland’s narrative follows a young Gay man named Joe, who escapes a difficult childhood in Missouri and spends nearly a decade wandering across the United States — to Miami, New York, New Orleans, and San Fran

Driver hits tree on 35th
Thanks for the tips. We’re still pursuing details of this crash at 35th and Brandon, south of Camp Long, but we do know the traffic disruption was fairly short-lived – medic crews cleared quickly after being dispatched around 8:50 pm. A tow truck’s already there.

READER REPORT: ‘Old friend came down today’ as Hiawatha Play Area construction
A couple readers mentioned the start of key work today on the years-in-the-making Hiawatha Play Area move. Bruce Curtis sent a photo and report with a bittersweet take on one aspect: >Blockquote> This morning the neighborhood’s favorite playground equipment came down. Hiawatha’s big swings left us today. Opinion: I didn’t move to Seattle for progressive politics. I moved here to survive.
Last month, I was featured in an NPR article exploring America’s growing phenomenon of “ideological sorting.” “In a country that’s growing ever-more polarized, the shifting demographics cut in both directions—and it is happening across the country,” they wrote. “In one study from 2022, researchers concluded that ‘at no point since the Civil War have partisans […] The post Opinion: I didn’t move to Seattle for progressive politics. The View From the Cheap Seats
We have looked forward for years to the World Cup coming to Seattle, and it finally swept through the city this summer. Much of Seattle’s effort to become “game ready” felt like putting makeup on a pig—a spectacle more than a transformation—but we were excited nonetheless. We hit the streets to document the tournament the way […] The post The View From the Cheap Seats appeared first on The Stranger.
