Brian Heywood’s IP26-645 (gutting billions in progressive revenue for education and essential services) is getting certified

645 would repeal the state's new million dollar earners tax, which only 20,000 or so of the wealthiest Washingtonians would begin paying by the end of the decade, while leaving in place the legislative authorization for the investments the revenue is supposed to fund, creating an enormous fiscal mess. Language tucked in the measure could also put at risk existing sources of revenue, too. Brian Heywood’s IP26-645 (gutting billions in progressive revenue for education and essential services) is getting certified is a post from NPI's Cascadia Advocate, the journal of the Northwest Progressive Institute. Who's my dad? When genetic testing gets complicated.

It’s estimated that millions of Americans have learned through home genetic tests that they’re not actually biologically related to a parent.  Most aren’t prepared for this surprise. And many aren’t briefed with informed consent before getting the news.  Betty Cohn has a Ph.D. in Public Health Genetics from the University of Washington. For her dissertation, she spoke with people who had this experience. To learn more before doing genetic testing, check out this Genetic Testing Consent Informational Flyer We can only make Seattle Now because listeners support us. Tap here to make a gift and keep Seattle Now in your feed.  Got questions about local news or story ideas to share?
