The ‘Neurotic Little Freak’ Behind the Curtain

This story originally appeared in The Stranger’s 2026 Queer Issue. Photos by Billie Winter Above a winding maze of clothing racks, dozens of styrofoam heads stare down at me. Sitting on three long rows of shelves, each head supports a carefully coiffed wig, tall, teased, and organized by color. Long pins stick out of some […] The post The ‘Neurotic Little Freak’ Behind the Curtain appeared first on The Stranger.

ARIES (March 21-April 19): Aries mathematician Paul Erdős lived without a permanent address, traveling the world to collaborate with other mathematicians. He owned little, claiming “property is a nuisance.” His life was structured around doing mathematics and helping others do mathematics. He published over 1,500 papers, more than any mathematician in history. Was his minimalism […] The post Free Will Astrology appeared first on The Stranger.

Colleen Melody, Mike Diaz, Debra Stephens up in Washington State Supreme Court contests; Theo Angelis in a competitive race

In every one of the 2026 Supreme Court contests we asked voters about at the end of May 2026, 60% or greater said they were not sure how they would vote. Among the respondents who did have opinions, incumbents did well, as did two appeals court judges who are running for open seats. One incumbent, recently appointed Justice Theo Angelis, appears to be more at risk of elimination than his peers, at least before the intensive voter contact phase of the campaign. Colleen Melody, Mike Diaz, Debra Stephens up in Washington State Supreme Court contests; Theo Angelis in a competitive race is a post from NPI's Cascadia Advocate, the journal of the Northwest Progressive Institute. Published continuously since March of 2004, NPI's Cascadia Advocate provides thoughtful commentary and analysis on regional, national, and world politics.
