Slog AM: Trump Spews Election Misinformation in Bad Speech, Fires in Canada, Poop Parasite in Your Crunchwrap Supreme
Trump Lies: Well, President Donald Trump’s speech on Thursday was a real doozy. He attacked elections. Citing heavily redacted intelligence documents out of context, Trump claimed that China interfered in the 2020 election by stealing millions of voter files on behalf of famed Chinese communist Joe Biden. According to The New York Times, “the documents […] The post Slog AM: Trump Spews Election Misinformation in Bad Speech, Fires in Canada, Poop Parasite in Your Crunchwrap Supreme appeared first on The Stranger.

Betting on Wildfires, Denny Blaine Verdict Is In, and Exchanging Books in Ballard
On today’s episode, host Jane C. Hu talks with science journalist Kylie Mohr about the prediction markets allowing people to bet on natural disasters, including wildfires. As this hot, dry summer continues, Kylie explains the risks involved in betting on fires that can be human-made as well as who is profiting from these bets. Then Jane is joined by contributors Guy Oron and Marcus Harrison Green to break down the verdict that arrived this week in the Denny Blaine park trial. Guy explains what the judge’s ruling means for park-goers and neighbors, and Marcus asks why this particular park got so much attention. Finally, all three get into weekend plans ranging from World Cup finals to book exchanges. And if you’re a City Cast Neighbor, stick around for a bonus segment about a legal battle between megacorporation Nestle and a local Seattle cold brew company. Washington banks grew ommercial and industrial lending 5.1% in Q1
The banks in Washington state held more than $6 billion in total combined commercial and industrial loans as of March 31, 2026, marking a 5.1 increase over what was reported in the year-earlier period. This online ranking expands beyond print, adding 7 banks to the 20 featured in this week's print edition. This week's List continues a shift in our research methodology and philosophy, one that emphasizes more data and context for readers while better coordinating the resources available to us and our 40-plus sister publications under the American City Business Journals flag. This effort identified thousands of new local records — and cumulatively, tens of thousands of new businesses across ACBJ's footprint — last year alone. Information on The List was obtained from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and could not be independently verified by the Puget Sound Business Journal. Rankings were determined by year-over-year percent change in commercial and industrial loan portfolios in the period analyzed. In case of ties, banks are listed alphabetically. To qualify for this List, banks are required to have a commercial and industrial lending balance at the end of the first quarter in 2026. Only institutions headquartered in Washington state are included. The Seattle City Council Didn’t Totally Screw Up Mayor Katie Wilson’s Biggest-Ever Seattle Transit Measure to Expand Bus Service in the City
It took over three hours of debate in the Seattle City Council’s Select Committee on Seattle Transportation Benefit District, a slew of dumb amendments, a few good amendments, and sitting through Committee Chair Rob Saka’s tortured pronunciation of the word “machete,” but the Seattle Transit Measure (STM) is intact and headed to a full council […] The post The Seattle City Council Didn’t Totally Screw Up Mayor Katie Wilson’s Biggest-Ever Seattle Transit Measure to Expand Bus Service in the City appeared first on The Stranger.
